CINDY LACKEY

DESIGNER

Faves + Spring Art

Happy Easter Monday everyone. Today we’re reviving our favs column with seven beautiful works of art to freshen up your walls and get ready for spring. I’ve included non-traditional takes on flowers, non-pink color choices and one fabulous bird. Some are originals (I’ll start saving my kroner now) and some are super affordable prints (I think you may know #5’s artist… #shamelessplug) but all are sure to breath new spring life into your space and mine.

This post is brought to you by Email Debt Forgiveness Day which I am celebrating a bit early this year. Maybe consider this a PSA and get to work on those annoying emails, posts, voicemails and other media that’s been nagging in the darkness of your digital life. Perhaps we’ll talk some more next time on what I’ve been up to these past months!

Taking A Break + Refocusing

Hey guys. You’ve probably noticed I’ve taken a bit of a break from posting here. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to take some time and focus more on my Swedish language studies full time. It is really important to me that I use our time here in Sweden to my full potential. That means that I need to speak the language fluently and work here in Sweden as an interior architect.

For this blog that means I’m pausing posts here until early next year. Please check back in January for more posts focused on Scandinavian design, interiors inspiration and a few crafty DIYs. Until then check out my work on Minted or follow along with me on Instagram or Pinterest.

I can’t wait to talk with you all again soon! xoxo

Happy Weekend + Travel

Happy weekend, everyone. I hope you are having just as much fun hanging out with all your loved ones as I am right now. Have a wonderful sunny weekend!

PS This snapshot is from our short layover at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. More from our travels on my Instagram and Twitter feeds!

Pick of the Week + BEdesign

We’re California sunshine bound! My sis and her beau are getting married at the end of this month and I could not be happier to share the day with them. We’ll be spending nearly a month catching up with family and friends and just hanging out. I feel so lucky to have the best friends house and kitty sitting for us back here at home, and that means at least one case of Cali wine is coming home with us as presents! I’m so excited to visit our favorite vineyards, like Big White House and Concannon, and taste all the new releases. It’s gunna be an awesome trip. I’ll be sure to keep you all updated on Fridays’ posts and over on Instagram + Twitter.

This week’s pick is a design company founded by a pair of inspiring sisters from Finland, BEdesign. Bette and Cilla Eklund, designer and marketing manager respectively, have stuck to the ideals of Finish design, staying true to raw materials and creating clean geometric forms that are intuitively functional. Above is one of my favorite piece from the collection, the Wave Table (which is in prototype). I love the effortless magazine rack wave that works set as a high or low table.

I also really like the Lume Coatrack, which comes in two sizes. The design is minimalistic but with a playful catch. The expected third and fourth leg to the rack are missing giving the whole piece a twisting feel and that extra bit of intrigue that makes this design irresistible for an entryway or ganged together in the bedroom.

This design team has such a great focus on creating the next generation of great Finish design. I got a change to meet with the sisters at the Stockholm Furniture Fair and their creative energy is infectious. BEdesign is definitely one one to watch.

Faves + Easter Eggs

This latest DIY I’m working on is kicking my butt! Have you ever worked with something for so long you stop being able to see any good in it? That’s where I’m at with this ridiculousness. On top of the feelings of inadequacy from not being about to make children’s toys into grownup and cool things (hint from three weeks ago), I’ve also seen two favorite little sketches of DIY ideas from my notebook end up on two of my favorite design blogs. It’s like these amazing and talented bloggers are drinking the same thought juice as me or something (is that too gross?). I think what I’m asking is: are we just all working with the same design rules and same materials and coming up with the same (slightly modified) things? It’s like that question from the Stockholm Furniture Fair: Do we need more chairs? I know the answer must be yes, there is always more to be designed, design isn’t over and I can contribute. But sometimes (like these last two weeks when I’m already stressed from too much school and not enough design time) it feels like everything has been done and I should just give up.

I just reread this amazing Ira Glass quote that is currently my desktop background (care of the always beautiful Design Love Fest) and am trying to remain calm and just do the work. Next week you will get this children toy turned grownup (hopefully) cool thing (see how I set goals?).

However, you will not get a Easter egg DIY from me. You have to visit these wonderful blog peoples sites for that. I know I will be this weekend. Because sometimes a girl just needs a little easy crafting to remember how good it can be.

Now, I’m off to make a stove top modified version of this chili for dinner. Yum!
