Faves + Spring Art

Happy Easter Monday everyone. Today we’re reviving our favs column with seven beautiful works of art to freshen up your walls and get ready for spring. I’ve included non-traditional takes on flowers, non-pink color choices and one fabulous bird. Some are originals (I’ll start saving my kroner now) and some are super affordable prints (I think you may know #5’s artist… #shamelessplug) but all are sure to breath new spring life into your space and mine.

This post is brought to you by Email Debt Forgiveness Day which I am celebrating a bit early this year. Maybe consider this a PSA and get to work on those annoying emails, posts, voicemails and other media that’s been nagging in the darkness of your digital life. Perhaps we’ll talk some more next time on what I’ve been up to these past months!

Faves + Easter Eggs

This latest DIY I’m working on is kicking my butt! Have you ever worked with something for so long you stop being able to see any good in it? That’s where I’m at with this ridiculousness. On top of the feelings of inadequacy from not being about to make children’s toys into grownup and cool things (hint from three weeks ago), I’ve also seen two favorite little sketches of DIY ideas from my notebook end up on two of my favorite design blogs. It’s like these amazing and talented bloggers are drinking the same thought juice as me or something (is that too gross?). I think what I’m asking is: are we just all working with the same design rules and same materials and coming up with the same (slightly modified) things? It’s like that question from the Stockholm Furniture Fair: Do we need more chairs? I know the answer must be yes, there is always more to be designed, design isn’t over and I can contribute. But sometimes (like these last two weeks when I’m already stressed from too much school and not enough design time) it feels like everything has been done and I should just give up.

I just reread this amazing Ira Glass quote that is currently my desktop background (care of the always beautiful Design Love Fest) and am trying to remain calm and just do the work. Next week you will get this children toy turned grownup (hopefully) cool thing (see how I set goals?).

However, you will not get a Easter egg DIY from me. You have to visit these wonderful blog peoples sites for that. I know I will be this weekend. Because sometimes a girl just needs a little easy crafting to remember how good it can be.

Now, I’m off to make a stove top modified version of this chili for dinner. Yum!

Faves + (St. Patrick’s Day) Green Inspiration

Since today is St. Patrick’s Day, I’ve rounded up some of my fav green interiors for you for inspiration. Green is such a tricky, and yet intriguing, color to decorate with. I was so sure I hated the shade in no. 5, but it works so well with the dark stained countertop + serving board and I’m a convert. My fav shade of green has to be no. 2, in deep emerald (with amazingly awesome fuchsia sofa, love). But I know the weird matte blue-green of no. 6 + 7 is so popular right now, and I love it, too. I was thinking grey for our bedroom walls but now, maybe I’ll be a bit more daring and go deep green!

Faves + Tranquil Bedrooms

The importance of a tranquil, cozy bedroom can not be understated. We spend so much of our lives in our bedrooms! It’s where was snuggle our loved ones and settle in for a good read or a weekend nap. The bedroom is were we start and end our days.

I love that all these inspiration bedrooms are a bit lived in, nothing is pristine in real life. They are perfect balances of pops of personality in color and pattern with large swatches of neutrals and simple shapes. Right now, my bedside table is overflowing with magazines (there’s quite a hefty stack on the floor, as well) and my dressing chair is layered with clean clothes still to be folded. I think I’m a few steps away from the perfect balance but I’m definitely inspired, especially by number two. That deep blue wall is calling me.

FAVES + HAND LETTERING IN THE WILD

Today I’ve got seven lovely hand lettered bits as seen in the wild of the world. Well, to be honest (and for the graphic artist snobs) it’s five bits of hand lettering, one bit of hand lettered like typography and one bit of food sculpture. But they are all my fav. Have you seen any great hand lettering lately?
