Trendspotting + Iridescent Darkness

Purple rain and dark, rock and roll iridescence has been stuck in my head on repeat for days now. I love the ’80s glam-ness of this retro-fresh trend. Do you guys fall down Instagram rabbit holes, too? ‘Cause Tom Dixon has been using #tdiridescence to promote his new Oil and Warp collections and the tag is quite inspirational.

Trendspotting + Natural Tones

You know how sometimes one color just dominates trends forever that you almost don’t even see it. Then something new comes along.

It seems like we’ve been living in gray and white city for a few years design wise. It’s become ‘safe’ and it’s just about time to mix things up. Shake off the gray skies and let some spring time nature in!

I’m so excited to see browns and neutrals sneaking in to the latest offerings of fixtures and furnishings. Lovely, solid, natural greens seem to exude that perfect a fresh pop of newness and light. My particular favorite is that perfect medium brown leather, like a warm cognac, slightly distressed and with green undertones.

Bold and Bright Baby + The Nursery

It’s so hard to believe little P (aka Hazelnut, aka The Nut, aka our good friends’ Jon + Audrey Camp‘s lovely daughter) is nearly one year old (this shot is from back when she was a little squish of just two months old). If you’re curious about how her life is unfolding, Audrey has written some beautiful essays on motherhood and life with P here, here and here and you know what, here, too. Actually better just take a look at all these posts on parenthood. They are all amazing.

As for P’s first room, I think it turned out quite well! Audrey sent over these shots from back when we had just finished and she was still pregnant all those days ago. Since then, well, P’s shown up, but the Camps have also bought an apartment in the super cool Grünerløkka borough of Oslo. So now we have first hand proof that Ferm Living’s wall stickers really do re-stick!

Check out the Mood Board and Product Board for this room. And don’t miss the post on P’s Camp Baby Shower also in the same theme of Bold, Bright and Adventurous!

Have an adventure loving week, everyone!

Faves + Easter Eggs

This latest DIY I’m working on is kicking my butt! Have you ever worked with something for so long you stop being able to see any good in it? That’s where I’m at with this ridiculousness. On top of the feelings of inadequacy from not being about to make children’s toys into grownup and cool things (hint from three weeks ago), I’ve also seen two favorite little sketches of DIY ideas from my notebook end up on two of my favorite design blogs. It’s like these amazing and talented bloggers are drinking the same thought juice as me or something (is that too gross?). I think what I’m asking is: are we just all working with the same design rules and same materials and coming up with the same (slightly modified) things? It’s like that question from the Stockholm Furniture Fair: Do we need more chairs? I know the answer must be yes, there is always more to be designed, design isn’t over and I can contribute. But sometimes (like these last two weeks when I’m already stressed from too much school and not enough design time) it feels like everything has been done and I should just give up.

I just reread this amazing Ira Glass quote that is currently my desktop background (care of the always beautiful Design Love Fest) and am trying to remain calm and just do the work. Next week you will get this children toy turned grownup (hopefully) cool thing (see how I set goals?).

However, you will not get a Easter egg DIY from me. You have to visit these wonderful blog peoples sites for that. I know I will be this weekend. Because sometimes a girl just needs a little easy crafting to remember how good it can be.

Now, I’m off to make a stove top modified version of this chili for dinner. Yum!
